Genidia Office Chair

The Genidia is a new concept office/posture chair with cutting edge aesthetics, breakthrough bonding design and interactive sitting posture engineering.

Its twisted structure optimises strength, allowing it to create a consistent thin edge throughout the entire frame. A custom integrated mechanism offers many areas of adjustment without disrupting the chair’s flow.

Also available with the Genidia is a ‘Sitting Posture Warning Device’ which can help users to correct their sitting posture, allowing them to be seated in a healthier way. After turning on the device, if the user has an incorrect sitting posture more than a minute, the device will be activated to alert the user.

  • Sitting Posture Warning Device add-on is also available
  • Mesh is made from elastomeric polyester mesh
  • Seat frame and headrest is made of nylon
  • Back frame is made of a combination of nylon and TPR
  • 4D armrest is made from plastic, aluminium, metal and polyurethane

Ergohuman or Ergohuman Plus

Why does an Ergohuman chair become a ‘plus’ chair? What was wrong with the first one? And just where does V1 and V2 come in?
The answer to question one is that there is nothing wrong with the Ergohuman and that stating ‘plus’ actually means that the Ergohuman Plus has enhanced or added features. So that’s good news, straightaway.
All Ergohuman chairs are sensibly designed, well-constructed and, might I say, stunning to the eye, so let’s see what they both have to offer, before looking at their differences:-
• They have a split backrest, with a dedicated part for the lumbar support which is independently flexible
• They have adjustable seat height and depth, back height and tension adjustment
• They have an adjustable seat recline, which means that you can alter the positioning of your body, to suit ‘on a mission’ typing or being in a more laid-back, pensive-cum- thnking mode.
• They have very clever armrests, which can be positioned just how you like them, looking at forwards, backwards, closer to or further from the user’s body frame, as well as twisted on a diagonal angle. This diagonal angle suits me perfectly, as I don’t feel comfortable when my elbows are touching my sides, so using that diagonal tilt allows my elbows to be away from my body frame but still support my lower arms on their journey towards the keyboard.
I could go on but, as you can see, both the Ergohuman and the Ergohuman Plus deliver extreme satisfaction to the person being lucky enough to have made all of the adjustments to their, and theirs only, ergonomic office chair.

So how do they differ?

It’s probably a good starting point to think of the Ergohuman Plus as being more of a designer chair. So what enhancements does the Ergohuman Plus have?
It boasts more aluminium than the Egohuman (without the Plus) chair and this can be seen in the headrest, as well as under the armrests
Its star-base legs are no longer straight but curved, giving the chair that extra appeal to the eye, a subtle but attractive change
The seat base has a forward tilt angle. This is very interesting as, even though the tilt is only four to five degrees from its normal horizontal position, this small change to the angle makes you more alert. Imagine getting ready to stand up from a sofa – you might place your hands on the sofa cushions, or maybe one of the sofa armrests, to give you that lift up but, in the Ergohuman Plus, the very subtle angle lift gives you that ‘on starter’s orders’ feel about your day. You’re ‘good to go’ with your working day and this under starter’s orders feel will probably enhance your afternoon’s performance, by fighting against that heavy feeling you may have, after eating that scrumptious meal you somehow couldn’t resist.

And the second question about what is V1 and V2. These are simply the US names for the Ergohuman office chairs. The Ergohuman V1 is a minimally adjusted Ergohuman to suit the taller and larger user, with an extra two to three centimetres on the seat width and a supporting higher gas lift. The V2 is a combination of the Ergohuman and the Ergohuman Plus and its selling point is that it has a single lever (this is available on all UK Ergohuman chairs) for performing multiple adjustments.

You really can’t go wrong with an Ergohuman. Like the name states, it looks at the human’s needs in an ergonomic, and constantly changing, working environment. Gone is the ‘dining room’ design chair which, in all fairness, might have done the job perfectly well before the digital age arrived. But not now.

Ergonomics, Space and Ergohuman Plus

In today’s world, space is becoming tighter and so, when planning an office, or where your office space should be in your own home, you need to look at space-saving devices, multi-purpose items and, amongst all of that, how to keep working hours and the non-working hours distinct from each other. But we also need to treat ourselves, don’t we?
So, as regards to working from home, if sitting occupies a high percentage of your day (we’re talking work and also those ‘me’ hours of television, gaming and Facebook), finding the right ergonomic, ‘all singing all dancing’, chair is a win-win situation, right?
Well, I’ve found the right one for you. It’s the Ergohuman Plus. We’re talking top end of the market here, a chair that stands out from the rest and can be a bit of a talking point because, not only is it a handsome chair, it’s also fully adjustable, almost like having your name written on it. By that, I mean that when you have used the single lever to make the chair of your dreams adjust to your personal preferences as in seat depth, seat height and back tilt, and when you’ve made use of that seat tilt option which gets you in a more alert sitting position, who knows what heights you might climb to? In work and in gaming!
If you go for mesh upholstery (I did), your ergonomic chair can be made more to your idea of handsome. And with that polished aluminium frame, it’s like wearing the best watch or jewellery. Does black make you feel good? Or what about green or red? And if you can’t make your mind up, why not have the seat pad in one colour and the backrest in another? It’s all about individual taste, isn’t it? Maybe you want to fit in with everyone else, or maybe that naughty-cum-playful streak within you wants to let others know that you’re, well, this is who you are.
To make things even better, you can accessorise your Ergohuman Plus with a legrest – ideal when you’re in pensive thought, or in Facebook mode. The brilliant thing about the legrest is that, as it is attached to your Ergohuman Plus, it can be tucked away under the seat pad when not in use, so you don’t have to use any space for a stand-alone footrest. Get the back tilt right, put your feet up (shoes off, of course!) and dream on.
If you’re in working (or gaming) mode, make use of that forward seat tilt, which makes you feel as though you are sitting more upright than usual and therefore more alert. And, if you’re really short of space, or you could do this simply for pleasure and ergonomic effectiveness, add a notebook arm to your trusty steed, which allows you to connect your laptop safely to your Ergohuman Plus and create a oneness with what you’re involved with in that moment.
Of course, the Ergohuman Plus + legrest + notebook arm will be effective both in your office and in your home but, in the office, use the chair only for working, as gaming and Facebook may not go down well with the boss.

The Ergonomic Office

If you know anything about office furniture, you’ll know that we’re now in the world of ergonomics. In a nutshell, this means making the office environment fit you. It means looking at your personal working space, your job responsibilities and also your body frame measurements and weight, to get the ‘best for you’ as regards to working conditions.

‘Getting it right’ will cover space, light, noise and overall sitting comfort:-

Space. A good ergonomic layout will mean that your work system is organised in such a way that you don’t have to carry heavy weights over long distances, you don’t have to overly stretch and you’re not working in cramped conditions etc..

Light. Good daylight is important and, where this isn’t possible, good simulated daylight is the next best thing. Knowing what type of lighting to buy for your office space is essential. Also bear in mind that a lot of light comes from your computer screen and this is going directly towards your eyes, which isn’t a good thing, as good light should always come from over your shoulder. I would always advise getting a filter screen for your computer, to reduce that ‘sunlight’ effect which really is too bright.

Noise. We now often hear of noise pollution and, in a busy office, pollution is often the case. For example, how often have you had to speak with call centre staff and can’t hear what your contact is saying as clearly as you can hear her colleagues? In that modern-day office, false walls in the form of screens are often used, to give that feeling of private space and to somewhat reduce the effect of the overall noise.

Overall Sitting Comfort. When it comes to seating, always look at ergonomic office chairs, as these are designed to offer many adjustments, making the chair of your choice match your overall needs. The Ergohuman range has several models, like the Ergohuman, the Ergohuman Plus, the Mirus, Enjoy and the Nefil. Spend some time finding out what these chairs offer. The features include seat tilt and glide, seat height, adjustable armrests, a lumbar support region and many other useful features and there are also additional extras, such as a headrest, a leg rest and a note table. Knowing what your job responsibilities ask of you will help you decide which of these additional extras are necessary.

Overall. An ergonomically-friendly environment makes work a pleasure and the day less stressful. It’s like any job, a bad workman always blames his tools, so getting the environment right for you means success all round.

It’s simply ergonomics.

Mirus Office Chair

The latest addition to the Ergohuman chair range, the Mirus chair boasts the ingeniously simple single lever control which operates the three most frequently
used chair functions. Seat height, seat depth and back tilt can all be operated
from a single point of contact.

Ergohuman Chairs

I already have my office chair but, if you need to buy one for yourself, I would suggest that you look no further than the Ergohuman range. I have the Nefil office chair, though my colleague swears by the Enjoy office chair model but it really depends on what you’re looking for. One of the points that should affect your decision is your body frame but the nature of your job is also important. What I mean by that second consideration is do you sit down all day long or are you always up and down, does the job involve a lot of twisting (maybe your filing cabinets are right next to you and you don’t have to actually leave your seat to put something away).

For me, the seat tilt and slide and the backrest tilt mean that I can get my back and my bottom to fit comfortably into the Nefil chair, so that I am actually using its magnificent features to support the whole of my back. That means that I am making use of the lumbar support that the chair back gives. My friend likes the Enjoy chair, as it has autoflex zones in the lumbar support feature and this does it for her.

All of the Ergohuman chair models are to die for, as a lot of thinking has gone into their design. They all have many features and adjustments and I suppose the most noticeable difference is the look of the chair. I just love the simple look and the Nefil’s chair back from the rear reminds me of the old-style beer bottle opener. The chair looks good and makes me feel good. With its ribbed look back support, the Enjoy appeals to my friend and that’s fine.

One thing we both agreed on was the choice of fabric. Though the leather is very nice, we much preferred the airiness of the mesh. It’s easy to wipe clean and is a chair that breathes, if you know what I mean.

I’m really pleased that I was guided towards the Ergohuman range of chairs. It was sound advice and that’s why I am passing the same information on. There’s an interesting range of colours to choose from as well. And as regards to that sound advice … don’t forget to pass it on.

Knowing about good posture is very important but, whilst looking for this information, .I came across a mention of how bad posture affects more than just your back.

If you sit poorly, it doesn’t take your muscles long to think that this position is the way it’s going to be and your muscles work alongside this bad posture, causing an imbalance in muscle support. Also, if you slouch, you are restricting digestion, circulation and breathing and your bones aren’t too happy about it either.

Once the aches and pain start in places like your neck, shoulders and back, maintaining a sitting position for any length of time becomes difficult and you may have to restrict sitting to twenty minutes or so, then move around to give your muscles and your skeletal frame a change of position, before returning to your earlier task.

If you have a job that allows regular movement e.g. a shop assistant, moving and changing position is part and parcel of the requirements of the post. If you are in a sedentary job (the list is endless!), that earlier acquired bad posture and its accompanying aches and pains is going to cause havoc e.g. discomfort, irritability, distraction and concentration problems.

The truth is that we probably don’t know what good posture entails i.e. does it mean more than sitting with a straight back?

Good posture includes having your feet firmly on the floor: dangling feet and crossed legs are definitely ‘no go’ areas. Your tailbone should be right up to the back of the chair and so should your back, unless you are slanting slightly forward, in which case the line between your head, chest and pelvis should be straight (not curved).

So, these points indicate a good sitting posture but that’s not the end of the story. The chair is only good for you if it’s ‘user-friendly’ in relation to the height of your table or desk, as your forearms need to reach the task in a horizontal position.

This is where ergonomic chairs are worth their weight in gold. They adjust not only to support your back but also to meet your height. The arm rests can be adjusted to ensure horizontal support for your hands and, together, you are sitting comfortably and working well.

There is quite a range of adjustable chairs, as each of us is different and an ergonomic chair means that the chair fits you and not the reverse! When choosing a suitable office chair, it will pay you to call on the advice of someone knowledgeable in ergonomics, to make an assessment of both your skeletal frame and the duties of your job. This will make sure that you choose the office chair that meets your needs.

Elementary, don’t you think?
